Philosophy

Disclaimer: This is a safe space for Women, LGBTQ+ individuals, People with Disabilities, People of Colour, Size Inclusive and our First Nations & Mikmaq community.

The philosophy at Nova Scotian Art Therapy is a holistic, family systems approach, utlizing the methodology of person-first, always. The role of the therapist is to guide an individual on their path of healing, rather than direct them. The client is in control of their therapeutic journey, but the therapist will be there every step of the way to support them.

What you see is what you get here. Starting therapy can be uncomfortable, but showing up for YOU is a major step, and together the therapist and client can navigate those feelings/emotions. There will be moments of laughter in both the uncomfortable and positive times as well as opportunities to sit with each other and experience the difficult moments together, leading with the utmost support.

The goal in therapy is to make the client feel welcomed in a safe space to be vulnerable, allowing them to be the most authentic version of themselves. It might not happen right away, but once the therapist/client relationship gets to that point, there can be such raw and beautiful moments.

As well, this wouldn’t be Nova Scotian Art Therapy without the expectation of the therapist being there to be your biggest cheerleader, ally and supporter.

Be you, the most authentic version of you.
