Ep. 38 - Creating Self-Care with Gabriella.png

Life Out Loud Podcast with Martina Kelades

The #TAKECAREHSC campaign is a response to a common parting statement we often say or receive from others —“take care.” In this episode, my guest and Art Therapist, Gabriella Rizkallah, presents ways of reframing the language around taking care and provides us with practical approaches to creating self-care in our day-to-day lives.

To connect with Gabriella, you can find her on social platforms at @nsarttherapy and www.nsarttherapy.com

Episode 40: Gabriella Rizkallah MEd - Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate/Art Therapist

Gabriella is a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate (RCT-C) and a member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA).

Art has always been her outlet for self-expression. It has allowed Gabriella to convey emotions when words could not. She decided to share the artistic knowledge she gained by completing her BEd from St. Francis Xavier University in 2016.

Although working with students in the classroom was extremely rewarding, she knew that she wanted to positively impact lives through artistic expression. That’s when her journey led her to Detroit, MI, where she was able to combine her passions by completing her MEd with a concentration in art therapy.

I Feel This...

I Feel This, I Feel That, I Feel Emotions, How About That.

As an art therapist and counselor, the best advice I could give an adult when understanding a child is to not dismiss their feelings. Teaching emotional intelligence is one of the greatest gifts you can give an individual, and it starts in childhood. By validating or being validated, it shows them that their emotions matter and ultimately that they matter.

There are many situations where children are told how to feel. This can lead to coping in emotionally destructive and toxic ways that can follow into adulthood. The premise of this book is to highlight emotions, validate those feelings, and connect them to the simple concept of colour. By doing this, we can create a welcoming safe space for children to better understand and express their own feelings.

A portion of every book sold will be donated in support of mental health

Create Beauty Everyday Podcast

This podcast is about community, friendship, art, creativity, and sometimes nonsense. It's my chance to chat with people I admire and value. Most of all its an opportunity to bring you into the conversation. I hope you enjoy listening to this half as much as I as enjoyed making it for you, because I had a ball.
